Vice-President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar HE Dr Sai Mauk Kham stops at the Livelihoods and Food Security Trust (LIFT) Fund’s booth and asks about LIFT’s work in Myanmar.
Livelihoods and Food Security Trust Fund (LIFT) showcased its work at the International Women’s Day high level forum at NPT opened by HE Dr Sai Mauk Kham, Vice-President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Since 2010, LIFT’s partners in Myanmar have assisted more than half million poor women living in rural areas.
LIFT's booth attracted many participants as it had a photo display, income generating products such as snacks, wallets, cotton blouses and shawls made by women members of community based groups. LIFT’s partners support over 3,726 community-based groups, with more than 70,447 members, (41% of which were women) have been trained in making products for local markets as well as management skills.
International Women’s Day high level forum was organized by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and opened by the Vice President HE Dr. Sai Mauk Kham. A message from the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was read by the UN Resident Coordinator Ashok Nigam. The event was attended by more than 200 guests that included government officials including HE U Aung Kyi, Union Minister for Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, diplomats, heads of UN agencies, local and international NGOs and women representatives from both parliaments (Pyithu Hluttaw and Amyotha Hluttaw).
