LIFT’s approach consists of four essential elements.
- Informed – sharing evidence-based good practices and insights
- Inclusive – elevating social inclusion through gender equality, and through interventions considerate of persons with disabilities and marginalised groups
- Attuned – increasing awareness of context sensitivities and risks
- Local – promoting localisation
EVIDENCE-BASED
LIFT employs a robust, end-to-end evidence-generation approach that spans the entire programme cycle. LIFT keeps abreast of the latest developments, good practices, and intervention trends in similar contexts. Comprehensive context and vulnerability analysis ensure programming is underpinned by evidence. Systematic monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning further strengthen accountability, support adaptive learning, and inform quality programme designs. Diverse external and internal evidence is integrated into efforts to ensure funding is maximised for the greatest development gains.
GENDER EQUALITY, DISABILITY AND SOCIALLY INCLUSIVE
LIFT has developed gender equality, disability, and socially inclusive frameworks, tools, and guidelines to promote project integration from design to closure. By focusing on the roles, leadership, and capabilities of all people – with particular attention to the negative impacts of poorly designed interventions – LIFT minimises unintended consequences and promotes positive outcomes for women and girls, persons with disabilities, and marginalised groups.
CONTEXT SENSITIVE
LIFT integrates context sensitivity and evidence generation throughout the programme cycle, ensuring interventions are responsive to evolving political, social, and environmental dynamics. This includes analysing interactions between activities and programmes and their context, ensuring programming is adaptive and responsive, and abiding by a ‘Do No Harm’ approach.
LOCALLY LED
LIFT works through various partners to achieve its purpose, including local and international NGOs, UN agencies, civil society actors, academic and research bodies, and the private sector. As locally led development is a key pillar of LIFT’s approach, greater priority is given to local organizations.
The essence of localisation calls for the genuine transfer of power and decision-making from international to national actors at different levels of society. LIFT’s overall goal is to proactively contribute to a Myanmar where development activities are locally led and sustained. To achieve this, LIFT focuses on equitable partnerships, resources for local capacity growth, risk tolerance and sharing, and community participation.
