LIFT’s implementing partners in Rakhine are diverting USD 276,000 of existing resources towards the COVID-19 response, limiting the spread of the disease and exposure of field staff and communities to unjustified risks. The LIFT Fund Board has also approved USD 2,268,000 in new funding for Metta Development Foundation’s small grants project and the International Rescue Committee (IRC)’s support to build resilience and provide access to clean water and hygiene items to internally displaced people (IDP) and underserved communities. LIFT funding towards the COVID-19 response in Rakhine now totals USD 2,544,000. Protective items are supplied for project beneficiaries, project staff and to support the Department of Public Health in Rakhine. LIFT is also working to provide people living in camps with clean water and hygiene products. LIFT partners in Rakhine continue to support nutrition activities that provide treatment for severely malnourished children in IDP camps in Pauktaw, and referral of children to the health services in villages of Pauktaw, while adapting to new operational challenges. International Labour Organization (ILO) ILO is distributing COVID-19 prevention kits which include surgical masks, paracetamol, soap and hand sanitiser to 5,389 households, targeting approximately 22,000 beneficiaries from 34 villages in Sittwe, Thandwe, Gwa, Kyaukphyu, Buthidaung and Maungdaw Townships in Rakhine. Awareness-raising activities will be carried out in 34 villages where pamphlets and posters will be distributed and billboards put up, along with the distribution of prevention kits. During the distribution, Village Development Committee (VDC) members, volunteers and staff and field implementing partners will be wearing T-shirts which have COVID-19 prevention messages. Furthermore, the Department of Public Health in 17 townships in Rakhine will receive two infrared thermometers each. The project will also provide infrared thermometers to the Department of Labour in Rakhine, so that the department can take preventive measures when people visit the department, or the Migrant Resource Centre, to receive employment information. International Rescue Committee (IRC) IRC will support access to clean water and hygiene items to 31,000 beneficiaries, including internally displaced people (IDPs) living in camps and villages and underserved communities in Myebon and Minbya Townships. IRC will also work to build resilience to the spread of COVID-19 amongst the most vulnerable and marginalised groups in Rakhine through awareness raising, provision of essential items and maintained access to basic needs and services. Metta Development Foundation Through small grants, Metta will help increase CSOs' capacity in Rakhine State and support CSOs to help communities to prevent, mitigate and recover from the impacts of COVID-19. Save the Children International (SCI) SCI has procured 90,000 soaps to be distributed across the programme area. SCI will also share awareness materials on COVID-19 through mother leaders; introduce hygiene products during the implementation of activities of the out-patient therapeutic programme (OTP); and distribute personal protective equipment (PPE) to field staff, volunteers working in camps, and the Rakhine State Public Health Department. The distribution is taking place in April and May. VisionFund Myanmar (VFM) VF is installing 53 handwashing stations in 45 wards and villages (24 villages and 21 wards). ..............................................................
