LIFT is increasing its efforts to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in livelihoods and community activities. LIFT played an important role in supporting the Government’s roll-out of both the universal social pension and maternal and child cash transfer (MCCT) programmes. LIFT funded HelpAge to implement two social protection policy projects, one based in Nay Pyi Taw and one in the Dry Zone. LIFT’s Uplands Programme supported the Department of Social Welfare (DSW) with direct financial and technical support to introduce MCCT and social and behaviour change communication (SBCC) throughout Chin State.
In LIFT’s 2019-2023 phase, the focus on social cohesion intensifies through work on inclusion, gender and women’s empowerment. Increased efforts in conflict-affected areas brings internally displaced persons and returnees into development programmes. LIFT is also programming in underserved urban and peri-urban areas and supporting the adoption and implementation of policy reforms.
