AFD is a development finance institution established in 1941, wholly owned by the French State, which finances development according to France’s Overseas Development Assistance policies. AFD’s activities are aimed at reducing poverty and inequalities, promoting sustainable economic growth, and protecting “Global Public Goods”.
When the French Development Agency (AFD) was authorised to operate in Myanmar in March 2012, AFD engaged in its first operation in the country towards rural development. Priority areas for AFD in LIFT programming was agriculture, health and water. AFD’s collaboration with LIFT also allowed AFD to quickly become involved with experienced partners in the agriculture sector and to put its specific regional expertise (Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam) to use.
